Principal’s Notes – August 2017

Dear Parents and Students:

Welcome back to another GREAT year of learning at Diplomat Elementary School. We hope to see all of you at our Open House this Monday, August 7th. Kindergarten Open House begins at 4:30 P.M. with a brief presentation in the cafeteria. Then parents will move on to classrooms.  Open House for Kindergarten closes at 6 P.M. Open House for Grades 1-5 will be held from 5:30 until 7:00 P.M. In classrooms students and parents will meet teachers and be given a packet that includes information about our school, as well as forms to be completed, such as the emergency contact information. Those can be filled out at school that night, or taken home and returned. Also in the packet are student stickers for the first few days of school. Parents please fill these out and attach one to the shirt front of your child beginning on the first day of school. This is one more way we know who everyone is  and how children go home from school. School planners will be available at Open House, as will theme T-shirts. We will also have stations set up for Bus Information and Registration for Dawn to Dusk.

Regarding Transportation, if your child is a bus rider we encourage you to have them ride beginning the first day of school. This helps the drivers and the dispatchers learn who is riding the bus and which stops will have students there. If you drop your child at school or pick up at the end of day, it is essential that you review the directions in the parent folder, or on our website and follow those directions. The plan for drop off and pick up was created by the school district with the City of Cape Coral. Due to the Fire Station on the corner and the large day care across the street we MAY NOT block both lanes of traffic on 16th Terrace. That is why parents may only approach the school from the back of the school turning east onto 16th.

On the first day of school your child will bring home a flyer with some additional information about school and important dates for August. If you have other questions or concerns, please contact our front office at 458-0033. You need not be concerned about your child finding their classroom on the first days of school as we have many adults placed throughout the building to assist students.

We look forward to the months ahead. Parents we have many opportunities to be a part of the school through participation in PTO, or the SAC (School Advisory Committee), or by volunteering in an assortment of ways. At Diplomat we all work together, teachers, staff, administration, parents and students to create a positive learning place for students and adults. We are happy that you will be joining us.
